New Modern Library — København

Designed for the Copenhagen New Modern Library competition, this proposal redefines the contemporary public library into an accessible, user-centered cultural hub and active civic sanctuary on the city’s waterfront. Built around the concept of transition—from public square to quiet contemplation, from analog to digital—the building operates as a community anchor connecting daily life with the cityscape and the sea.
The 7-story massing is defined by a dynamic, expanding central void that draws natural light deep into all levels. Its climate-responsive facade—combining operable curtain walls, perforated solar-shading panels, and integrated photovoltaic glass—balances thermal performance with panoramic views toward the waterfront and Amalie Garden. Inside, flexible floor plates effortlessly integrate digital workspaces, media labs, co-working zones, auditoriums, and quiet reading areas, culminating in stepped green rooftop terraces that open up to the urban landscape.
