iO SiEDO is a territorial and social design project developed by ROSSS between 2022 and 2023, with the aim of restoring the value of public spaces, strengthening human relationships, and celebrating the cultural identity of the Mugello region in Tuscany.
At the heart of the project are a series of artistic steel benches conceived under the artistic direction of Professor Adriano Bimbi and designed in collaboration with architect Nina Songhori. More than simple pieces of urban furniture, these installations become places of encounter, reflection, and community life.
Steel, a material that has defined ROSSS’ production culture since 1981, is transformed into a symbolic and sustainable element capable of connecting people and places. The design draws inspiration from two architectural traditions: the timeless elegance of Filippo Brunelleschi’s Renaissance arches and the essential modernity of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, creating a dialogue between history and contemporary design.
Installed throughout the municipalities of Mugello, each bench is made unique by engravings created by local primary school students. Their drawings and messages turn every piece into a collective narrative, expressing memories, values, and aspirations rooted in the local community.
More than an urban design initiative, iO SiEDO is an invitation to rediscover the pleasure of being together, to inhabit public space consciously, and to strengthen the relationship between people, culture, and landscape. Through these sculptural benches, the project celebrates the social dimension of design and contributes to enhancing the beauty and identity of the Tuscan territory.
